Product Overview

The Victron Energy Quattro-II 24/3000/70-50/50 2x120V VE.Bus is a combined inverter and battery charger designed for demanding marine, recreational vehicle, mobile and off-grid power systems. Built for 24V battery installations, it combines a pure sine wave inverter, a 70A battery charger and an automatic transfer switch with two independent AC inputs.

With a 3,000VA inverter rating and dual 120V AC output configuration, the Quattro-II provides integrated power conversion and battery charging for compatible North American electrical systems. Its ability to connect to two external AC sources makes it particularly useful for installations that use both shore power and a generator.

Applications and Usage

The Quattro-II is suitable for compatible boats, yachts, recreational vehicles, motorhomes and off-grid installations requiring dependable 120V AC power from a 24V battery bank.

When an external AC supply is available, the unit can pass power through to connected equipment while charging the batteries. Two independent AC inputs allow connection to sources such as shore power and a generator. The Quattro-II automatically selects the active source according to the configured priorities and operating conditions.

When external AC power is unavailable, the inverter supplies compatible loads from the battery bank. This integrated functionality helps reduce the need for separate inverter, charger and transfer-switch equipment.

Dual AC Inputs and 2x120V Output

The Quattro-II features two independent AC inputs and two AC outputs, providing flexibility for installations with different power sources and load requirements.

Its 2x120V configuration is designed for compatible North American 120/240V split-phase systems. When supplied by a suitable split-phase source, the unit can pass through both lines of the incoming AC supply.

When supplied by a single-phase 120V source, the unit can combine the output lines to provide 120V AC to compatible loads on either side of the distribution panel. In inverter mode, it also supplies 120V AC rather than generating an independent 240V supply from the battery alone.

The second AC output is intended for loads that should operate only when an external AC source is available, helping prevent selected equipment from discharging the battery bank during inverter operation.

Pure Sine Wave Inverter Performance

The integrated inverter converts 24V DC battery power into a stable 120V AC pure sine wave output at 60Hz. It is rated at 3,000VA, delivering approximately 2,400W of continuous active power at 25°C under specified conditions.

Continuous active power is approximately 2,200W at 40°C and 1,700W at 65°C. Peak power capability reaches up to 5,500W for short-duration demands.

This output is suitable for many electronic devices, appliances, lighting systems and other AC equipment when their starting and continuous power requirements are within the unit's limits. Actual performance depends on temperature, battery voltage, cable sizing and load characteristics.

Intelligent 70A Battery Charger

The integrated charger delivers a maximum charging current of 70A to a compatible 24V battery bank. Victron Energy's charging technology manages the charging cycle to support effective battery replenishment.

Absorption, float and storage charging voltages are configurable for the connected battery system. Nominal reference settings for compatible 24V lead-acid systems are 28.8V absorption, 27.6V float and 26.4V storage. Actual settings must follow the battery manufacturer's requirements.

Suitable lithium battery installations may also be supported when charging parameters and battery management system requirements are correctly accommodated.

PowerControl and PowerAssist

PowerControl helps manage the current drawn from a limited external AC source, such as a generator or shore power connection. This allows the configured input current limit to be matched to the available supply.

PowerAssist can supplement a restricted external AC supply with battery power when demand temporarily exceeds the available input capacity. This helps manage short periods of higher load while reducing the risk of overloading the external source.

These functions are valuable in mobile and marine installations where generator or shore power capacity may be limited. Their operation depends on the installation and correct configuration.

Automatic Transfer Switching

The integrated 50A transfer switch automatically changes between available external AC sources and inverter operation when required. This helps maintain power to compatible connected equipment if an external supply is interrupted.

The Quattro-II's dual-input arrangement is particularly useful where shore power and generator power are both available. The system manages the source selection automatically according to its configured settings.

The 50A transfer rating should be considered separately from the inverter's continuous output power when designing the installation.

Technical Information

The QUA242305130 is designed for a nominal 24V DC battery system, with an operating DC input voltage range of 19–33V. Its inverter output is 120V AC at 60Hz, with a continuous apparent power rating of 3,000VA and continuous active power of 2,400W at 25°C.

Peak power is rated at 5,500W, and maximum inverter efficiency is approximately 94%. The integrated battery charger delivers up to 70A. The automatic transfer switch is rated at 50A, with a maximum AC input current of 50A per leg.

The AC input supports compatible split-phase supplies of approximately 180–280V AC, as well as single-phase supplies of approximately 90–140V AC, at 55–65Hz. Charging voltage settings can be configured to suit the installed battery system.

The unit includes two RJ45 VE.Bus communication ports for configuration and integration with compatible Victron Energy equipment. Battery connections use M8 terminals, and AC connections use screw terminals suitable for conductors up to 21mm², subject to installation requirements.

The enclosure measures approximately 579 × 319 × 168mm and weighs around 22.5kg. The enclosure protection rating is IP22.

System Integration and Installation

The Quattro-II can be integrated with compatible Victron Energy monitoring and control equipment through its VE.Bus communication interface. Depending on the installation, compatible equipment can provide monitoring, configuration and remote management capabilities.

Installation requires correctly sized battery cables, suitable DC overcurrent protection, appropriate AC circuit protection, secure mounting and adequate ventilation. The AC distribution arrangement must be designed for the intended single-phase or split-phase supply and comply with applicable electrical regulations.

This model is designed for 120V, 60Hz North American-style systems. It is not a direct replacement for a standard 230V UK or European inverter/charger. Confirm the battery voltage, AC input arrangement, output requirements and connected-load compatibility before purchasing.

Professional installation is recommended for marine, vehicle and fixed electrical systems.
