Product Overview
The Victron Energy Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 120V VE.Bus is a high-performance inverter/charger designed for demanding marine, off-grid and backup power installations using a 12V battery system. Combining a pure sine wave inverter, a high-capacity battery charger and an integrated automatic transfer switch, the Quattro provides reliable AC power conversion and intelligent management of multiple power sources in one unit.
With a 5,000VA inverter rating and a powerful 220A battery charger, this model is suited to systems that require substantial AC output and rapid battery charging. Its two independent AC inputs allow connection to sources such as shore power and a generator, with the integrated transfer switch automatically selecting the active source.
Applications and Usage
The Quattro 12/5000 is suitable for larger marine electrical systems, yachts, commercial vessels, off-grid installations and backup power systems designed around a compatible 12V battery bank. It can supply AC power to connected equipment when external electricity is unavailable, while also charging the battery bank when shore power or generator power is available.
Its dual AC inputs make it particularly useful for installations where two different power sources are required. The integrated transfer switch automatically changes between the available sources, helping maintain a continuous supply to connected loads. The inverter's UPS functionality enables rapid changeover to battery-powered operation when the external AC supply is interrupted, helping protect compatible equipment from power interruptions.
PowerControl and PowerAssist
Victron Energy's PowerControl and PowerAssist technologies help manage limited AC input capacity. PowerControl allows the available input current to be limited to suit the shore connection or generator, while PowerAssist can supplement a restricted external supply with additional power from the battery through the inverter.
These features help manage demanding loads and reduce the risk of overloading a limited AC source. Correct configuration is essential to ensure the system operates within the limits of the installation.
Technical Information
The QUA125021100 is designed for a nominal 12V DC battery system and provides 120V AC output at 60Hz. It has a continuous inverter rating of 5,000VA, equivalent to approximately 4,000W under the specified operating conditions, with a peak power rating of up to 10,000W.
The integrated battery charger provides a maximum charging current of 220A for the main battery bank. The unit also incorporates two AC inputs and an integrated transfer switch rated at 100A per input path. A separate auxiliary AC output is available for suitable installations, allowing selected loads to be configured differently from the main output.
The inverter produces a pure sine wave output, making it suitable for many sensitive electronic devices and conventional AC equipment when their electrical requirements are within the inverter's capacity. Maximum conversion efficiency is approximately 94%.
The DC input voltage range is approximately 9.5–17V. The unit measures approximately 470 × 350 × 280mm and weighs around 34kg. Adequate ventilation, secure mounting and suitable access for electrical connections must be provided.
System Integration and Compatibility
The Quattro uses Victron VE.Bus communication for configuration and system integration. Compatible remote monitoring and control equipment can be used to manage operating settings and view system performance. Multiple compatible units can also be configured together for more advanced installations, subject to the manufacturer's requirements for system design, wiring and configuration.
Battery cables, overcurrent protection, AC circuit protection and conductor sizes must be selected according to the installation design, current requirements and applicable electrical regulations. Because this is a high-current 12V inverter/charger, professional installation is strongly recommended.
Important compatibility note: This is a 120V, 60Hz model intended primarily for North American-style AC systems. It is not a direct substitute for a 230V UK or European Quattro model. Confirm the AC voltage, frequency, battery capacity and charging requirements before ordering.
Product Summary
The Victron Energy QUA125021100 Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 120V VE.Bus is a powerful integrated inverter and charger for demanding 12V marine, off-grid and backup power applications. Its 5,000VA inverter, 220A battery charger, dual AC inputs and automatic transfer switching provide flexible power management for installations that need dependable AC supply from both external sources and a battery bank.
