Product Overview

The Victron Energy MultiPlus 24/3000/70-50 120V VE.Bus is a powerful, multifunctional inverter/charger designed for demanding marine, mobile, off-grid and backup power installations. Combining a pure sine wave inverter, an intelligent 70A battery charger and an integrated 50A automatic transfer switch, it provides reliable AC power and efficient battery management in a single unit.

Designed for 24V battery systems, the MultiPlus delivers a 3,000VA inverter capacity and 120V AC output at 60Hz. Its integrated design reduces the need for separate inverter, charger and transfer-switch components, making it a practical solution for installations that require dependable power management.

This model is a UL-listed version intended for compatible North American-style electrical installations, including applicable marine and vehicle applications.

Applications and Usage

The MultiPlus 24/3000 is suitable for boats, yachts, recreational vehicles, motorhomes, commercial vehicles and off-grid power systems using a compatible 24V battery bank. It converts stored battery energy into 120V AC electricity for appliances, electronics, lighting and other equipment within the unit's rated capacity.

When connected to shore power or a suitable generator, the MultiPlus can supply incoming AC power to connected loads while charging the battery bank. If the external supply fails, the inverter automatically takes over, helping maintain the supply to connected equipment with minimal interruption.

Its combination of inverter, charger and transfer switch makes it particularly useful where reliable AC power is required from both external sources and stored battery energy.

Pure Sine Wave Inverter Performance

The integrated inverter produces a pure sine wave AC output, providing a stable power supply for compatible electronic equipment and appliances. It is rated at 3,000VA, delivering approximately 2,400W of continuous active power at 25°C under specified operating conditions.

The unit offers peak power capability of up to 6,000W, helping accommodate short-duration starting surges from suitable motors and other equipment. Actual performance depends on temperature, battery voltage, cable sizing and the electrical characteristics of the connected loads.

Intelligent 70A Battery Charger

The built-in 70A battery charger uses Victron Energy's adaptive charging technology to manage the charging process for a compatible 24V battery bank. The charging cycle adjusts to battery requirements and operating conditions to support effective recharging and battery care.

An independent auxiliary trickle-charge output is also provided for maintaining a suitable starter battery, which can be useful in marine and vehicle installations where separate house and engine batteries are fitted.

Charging parameters must be configured to match the battery manufacturer's recommendations. For lithium battery installations, check charging-voltage compatibility and any battery management system requirements before installation.

PowerControl and PowerAssist

Victron Energy's PowerControl technology helps prevent a generator or shore power connection from being overloaded. The maximum permitted AC input current can be configured to suit the available supply, allowing the system to manage its demand more effectively.

PowerAssist adds another level of flexibility by supplementing a limited external AC supply with power from the battery through the inverter. This helps accommodate temporary increases in demand without relying entirely on the generator or shore connection.

These functions are especially valuable in mobile and marine installations where the available external power supply may be limited.

Automatic Transfer Switch and UPS Function

The integrated 50A transfer switch automatically changes between external AC power and inverter operation when the incoming supply becomes unavailable. This helps maintain power to compatible connected equipment with minimal interruption.

The UPS functionality is useful for installations containing electronic equipment or other loads that benefit from a more continuous AC supply. The transfer switch and all connected circuits must be installed within their rated current limits.

Technical Information

The PMP242301102 is designed for a nominal 24V DC battery system, with an operating DC input range of approximately 19–33V. Its AC output is 120V at 60Hz.

The inverter is rated at 3,000VA, with continuous active power of approximately 2,400W at 25°C, 2,200W at 40°C and 1,700W at 65°C. Peak power is rated at up to 6,000W, and maximum inverter efficiency is approximately 94%.

The integrated battery charger delivers up to 70A to the main battery bank, while the automatic AC transfer switch is rated at 50A. The AC input voltage range is approximately 95–140V, with charging voltages configurable to suit the connected battery system.

The enclosure measures approximately 362 × 258 × 218mm and weighs around 19kg. It has an IP21 protection rating and uses M8 battery connections and screw-terminal AC connections. The unit also supports VE.Bus communication for configuration and system integration.

System Integration and Installation

The MultiPlus can be integrated with compatible Victron Energy monitoring and control equipment through its VE.Bus interface. Depending on the installation, compatible accessories can provide system monitoring, remote control and configuration options.

Suitable battery cabling, DC fusing, AC circuit protection, secure mounting and adequate ventilation are essential. All cables and protective devices must be sized for the expected current, installation conditions and applicable electrical regulations.

This is a 120V AC, 60Hz model intended for compatible electrical systems. It is not a direct replacement for a 230V UK or European inverter/charger. Confirm the required AC voltage, frequency, battery voltage, charging requirements and connected-load capacity before purchasing.

Professional installation is recommended, particularly for marine and vehicle systems.

Product Summary

The Victron Energy MultiPlus 24/3000/70-50 120V VE.Bus inverter/charger provides integrated power conversion, battery charging and automatic AC transfer for demanding 24V installations. Its 3,000VA pure sine wave inverter, 70A charger, 50A transfer switch, PowerControl and PowerAssist functions make it a versatile solution for compatible marine, mobile, off-grid and backup power applications.
